Canadian computer scientist Gilles Brassard, born on April 20, 1955, in Montreal, is a renowned for his fundamental work in quantum cryptography, quantum teleportation, quantum entanglement distillation, quantum pseudo-telepathy, and the classical simulation of quantum entanglement. He is a co-inventor of the BB84 protocol, the first quantum cryptography scheme. Brassard's research has significantly advanced the field of quantum computing and secure communications. He has received numerous honours, including the Wolf Prize in Physics (2018) and the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (2023). As a professor at the Université de Montréal, he has played a pivotal role in establishing Canada as a leader in quantum information science.
We extend our deepest congratulations to the foreign member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences - Professor Gilles Brassard on his 70th birthday!
Your pioneering work in quantum information science has changed the way we think about the future, and it continues to inspire generations of researchers around the world. Wishing you continued curiosity, creativity, and joy in all that lies ahead!
